Hebrews 9:13-22 Jesus Offered a Better Sacrifice to Begin the New Covenant
Chapter 9 is a chapter focused on blood. The word “blood” is used 10 times in 28 verses. From the beginning of the Old Covenant, blood sacrifices pointed to the final sacrifice that Jesus would make. But those blood sacrifices could only cover sin. They could not take it away. However, “Christ came as a high priest of the good things that have come.” (9:11) He offered His blood on the real tabernaclein heaven. (9:12)Jesus, New Covenant sacrifice offered internal purification instead of external purification. Now, no more sacrifices are needed. No more blood needs to be shed. Jesus offered a better sacrifice to the Jewish people. It was the final one. Jesus offered a better covenant to the Jewish people. It was permanent. Now, Jews and Gentiles are invited to confess Christ. They can be forgiven of all their sin, past, present, and future. They can be part of a better covenant that is for Jew and Gentile.
